One of the areas in which I have become proficient during eight years of marriage is laundry. Once a task that I simply dreaded, I have come to actually “enjoy” laundry. Sounds weird, but there seems to be some feeling of accomplishment in sorting, separating, washing, drying and folding.
Of course, that does not include two things: I only do the wash for two people and I never try to wash and dry my sneakers. It’s the sound of the shoes smashing up against the side of my dryer that usually keeps me from trying to dry them that way. After all, my dryer is loud enough and the sounds of shoes banging and possibly drying my dryer is quite the deterrent.
Along comes this week’s product: The “No Bang”. A Pittsburgh company called Intromark makes this simple, but odd looking device. Essentially, it’s two suction cups each with a velcro strap attached. The premise is a simple one: Secure your shoes to the side of the dryer and then allow the dryer to rotate and dry them.

Theresa DeVita of Baldwin, the mother of four young and very active children, was nice enough to allow me to come down to her laundry room and give the No Bang a try. Her kids produce quite a little bit of laundry and their canvas shoes get dirty quickly.
We asked her to wash two pairs of her children’s shoes and then strap them into the dryer using the “No Bang”. After reading the instructions, Theresa strapped the shoes onto the side of the dryer wall. It took a little bit of work because her dryer is a top-entry unit and she had to reach deep down inside to get to the dryer wall.
Once they were strapped in, she turned on the dryer … and let them go. The first thing you hear .. is nothing. It’s so quiet that you can’t believe there are actually shoes inside the dryer. After about a half hour, the shoes were still secure inside … and they were dry! Success? While I think the product works well and does what it says, I would not recommend for larger shoes … say an male adult-size. This product though is perfect for the kids sizes. That’s why the “No Bang” makes enough noise to get four stars.
